Our Mission: Combating poverty, inequality and social ills through community centered social, educational and economic development interventions.Who are our members?
Street or Block Committees
That consist of any resident meaning house owner, tenant or lodger over the age of 18 years LIVING on a particular street or in a block in Bonteheuwel.
What Programmes have we run in the last two years?
Community Safety
- Community Street Patrols
- Neighbourhood Alert WhatsApp Groups
- Creating Safe Play Spaces for our youth and children
- Neighbourhood Safety Networks for children’s safe passage to and from school
- Fun Day Programmes During School Holidays
Community Health
Making primary health care a reality in all our neighbourhoods by having block clinics once a month hosted by our street committees.
Partnering with our community health care
workers on home based care
For Our Youth
Re-introduced and reenergised our netball and football clubs
Arranged our annual Christopher Truter Football and Coline Williams Netball Tournaments
Assisted our youth in educational or job opportunities
On Violence Against Women and Children
We have continues workshops and trauma counselling for women and children.
Support our women and children on a case by case basis in our neighbourhoods.
Partner with the justice and social clusters in giving the necessary support needed.
Overcrowding and Housing
Advocating against continued Apartheid Spatial Planning in our already overcrowded area with all its social ills and joblessness.
Resisting the municipal plans of wanting to build 400 houses on our recreational and sports fields.
Back To School Uniform Drives
We have a back to school uniform drive where we kit out a minimum of seventy of the most vulnerable children in our various neighbourhoods.
Covid-19 Humanitarian Relief
In a 12 week period our organisation have handed out 1550 food and hygiene hampers;
Produced and handed out about 3000 masks;
Set up 34 feeding schemes which feed approximately 45 000 meals per week.
What are our intended food security plans?
What are our intended food security plans?To grow our own food in our own community food gardens to supply our feeding schemes in our:
16 Schools in our area.
On our public spacessuch as recreational and open spaces.
In our homes.
How have we managed to fund our programmes thus far?
By having street committee fundraisers;
By fundraising amongst ourselves as residents;
By fundraising from friends, families and alma maters living outside of Bonteheuwel;
By calling on the goodwill of others.
How Can You Help Us Help Ourselves?
By forming a partnership in continuing our much needed feeding schemes;
By donating in cash or kind towards essential ingredients, equipment, seeds, etc for our feeding schemes and food gardens;
By adopting one or more of our 34 feeding schemes and or its food garden by covering its needs.
